Carter Hanson, Senior Manager Environmental Affairs & Sustainability; Smithfield Foods Inc.
Carter Hanson has worked in the environmental arena for 20 years. He has experience as a consultant, facility environmental manager and currently in corporate environmental oversight for Smithfield Foods, Packaged Meats Division. He holds an MS in Environmental Management from Ball State University and BS in Environmental Health from Indiana State University. He started his career working in the hot metal industry, then shifted to automotive manufacturing and now food manufacturing. He also served as an Army Reservist retiring after 23 years. During his military career he became an Environmental Science Officer working on projects for the Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center as well as the US Army Public Health Command. His passion is industrial sustainability and helping facilities embrace the economic advantages as well as risk reduction that sustainability offers our ever shrinking world.
